In STEM with Mrs. Vandenbos and Mrs. Sutherland, eighth graders were challenged to design, create, and build a "candy grabber" to be able to clean up a candy factory spill without touching the table and candy with their hands. They were given various criteria and constraints, such as not being able to cross the plane of the table and not being able to push the candy off of the edge. Each group successfully built a prototype that met the challenge of being able to pick up at least two different types of candy in 30 seconds. The most successful design picked up 16 pieces and placed them in a bag in the 30 second time limit. Great engineering minds at work!
