As indicated in this Action Alert, Gov. Murphy's FY19 Budget reduces the spending for Non Public School Transportation that in effect reduces the per pupil amount back to $884 from this year's amount of $1,000. Also, spending for Non Public School Nursing and Technology were reduced on a per pupil basis. The reduction in Nursing adds an additional hardship to Non Public Schools (several of our schools) that are unable to pay for a nurse on those days that State funding is not available.
We are asking that the per pupil Non Public School Transportation amount be brought back to $1,000 and to restore the cuts in Nonpublic School Nursing and Technology to at least the same per pupil level as in this current school year.
We have attached talking points regarding Transportation, Nursing and Technology. Also, we are asking for certain Budget language to be inserted that permits local Non Public Schools to pool State funds for Nursing Services, Technology and Security to serve the needs of students more effectively - this will allow these funds to be targeted more effectively. We have included the members of the Senate and Assembly Budget Committees to contact. The two Budget Committees will make the recommended changes to the Gov. Murphy's budget - we need to contact these Budget Committee members.
The need to contact the respective Budget Committee members is not a one contact activity but will require multiple contacts over the next three months. It is suggested that we engage as may parents and faculty as possible to make these contacts via phone or e-mail. In addition, our voices can be known via Voter Voice System. The site address is listed on the bottom of the Action Alert's second page.
